Mix Vaseline with Lemon: A Surprising DIY Skin Care Recipe

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

  • Start with clean hands and clean skin to avoid transferring dirt or bacteria.
  • Squeeze fresh lemon juice from half a lemon (or use bottled lemon juice if that’s more convenient). You only need about 1 teaspoon for the recipe.
  • Measure 1 tablespoon of Vaseline and place it in a small mixing bowl.

Step 2: Mix the Ingredients

  • Add the lemon juice to the Vaseline in the bowl.
  • Mix the two ingredients together thoroughly until they form a smooth, even consistency. It might take a minute to fully combine, but the Vaseline will gradually soften and blend with the lemon juice.
  • If you prefer a thinner consistency, you can add a few more drops of lemon juice, but be cautious as lemon juice can be a little strong for sensitive skin.

Step 3: Apply to Skin

  • Before applying, do a patch test on a small area of skin (like the inside of your wrist or elbow) to make sure you don’t have an allergic reaction or irritation to either ingredient.
  • Once you’ve confirmed there’s no irritation, gently massage the mixture onto the desired area of your skin. Common areas to target include:
    • Dry, cracked elbows or knees
    • Chapped lips
    • Rough, dry patches on hands or feet
    • Dark spots or hyperpigmentation
Tip: You can even apply this mixture to your entire face if you’re looking for a moisturizing treatment (be sure to avoid the eyes and use only a thin layer).

Step 4: Let It Sit

  • Let the mixture sit on your skin for 10-20 minutes to allow the ingredients to soak in and work their magic.
  • For extra hydration, you can leave it on overnight (just be sure to cover your pillow with a towel or use an old pillowcase).

Step 5: Rinse Off or Leave On

  • After letting it sit, rinse your skin with warm water to remove any excess Vaseline. Gently pat your skin dry with a towel.
  • For an intense treatment, you can leave a light layer of Vaseline on your skin as an overnight moisturizer, especially for areas like your hands, elbows, or feet. The lemon juice will continue to exfoliate and brighten, while the Vaseline locks in moisture.
